Die Reise zum sichersten Ort der Erde Australia, Austria, China, Germany, Japan, Sweden, Switzerland, UK, USA 2013 – 100min.
Short description
In the 50’s, nuclear power seemed to be the answer to everyone’s problems. Even atomic cars were thought to be merely a matter of time. But the issue of nuclear waste was pushed aside for later. This changed in the 70’s, when Charles McCombie, a Scottish nuclear physicist, became involved. The Swiss resident is a nuclear storage expert and the personified recurrent theme of Die Reise zum sichersten Ort der Welt. He tells the audience that the ideal storage space must be earthquake-proof and that water can’t come in contact with the waste for many thousands of years. And the most essential point is that geologists, residents and politicians must all be in agreement on a location’s suitability.
