Cloud Atlas Germany, Hong Kong, Singapore, USA 2012 – 172min.
Short description
Sailing the Pacific in 1849 and discovering slavery there, Adam Ewin writes everything in his journal, which is read by Robert Frobisher, a penniless musician who soon finds work with composer Vyvyan Ayrs in 1932. Frobisher tells the story to his lover Rufus Sixsmiths in letters he sends to him until the end of his life. In 1975, Sixsmiths, now a scientist, is assassinated as he delivers a secret file to Luisa Rey, a journalist investigating a dangerous and confidential nuclear project. In 2012, editor Timothy Cavendish has possession of Rey's manuscript, but he is held prisoner in an institution so that the document will never be published. In Korea in 2144, a totalitarian state manufactures female clones. One of them, Sonmi 451, develops a conscience and calls for rebellion...

Really enjoyed it, I had read the book before which I guessed helped a lot because the intrigue can be hard to follow, especially in the first part. I think that's a universal rule that the book is always better than the movie, but they've done a pretty good job on that one!

Impressively realised, excellent actors, beautiful imagery. I really liked the film, though I felt like there was one important strand missing from the interwoven project.
