Marrakech. Noha, Randa, Soukaina and Hlima are prostitutes. Despite their differences and personal problems, they share their lives, from their nights with rich clients to their anecdotes about the trade. Supervised by madams, taken from one party after another by a driver, they are passed along to tourists, locals and Saudi princes, as they try to hold their heads high within a society that denies their existence.

It is not surprising that Much Loved caused a scandal with Moroccan authorities, who censored its release for dubious reasons. Nabil Ayouch’s movie is like a hurricane of freedom and life, a caustic political force, offering a chilling perspective of the status of women. Resisting the pitfalls of the genre despite a dark story, Much Loved is a colorful portrait of modern women, free with their bodies and their words. Loved, desired and necessary, but also hated or worse, they symbolize a sick society that finds some hope in the spirit of these four women. Awarded the César Award for Best Actress, the excellent Loubna Abidar is one of the reasons to see this film, which deserves to be strongly supported.
