Gérard Depardieu is hard on himself, claiming he has made «150 pieces of sh*t» during his career.

150 pieces of sh*t

The French daily Le Parisien quotes Depardieu from an interview held Sunday afternoon during the Forum des Images, in Paris.

During the interview, the brilliant actor declared: «I don't care about movies. I've never really fought to make a movie. I've made about 200, and in all, 150 are pieces of shit. I was doing a service. I made movies by chance. I could have stolen cars, become a businessman, an oilman. (...) I've been in the limelight too much.»

The next day, at the Festival in Cannes, where many of the productions being shown actually deserve that epithet, the comments made by one of cinema's legends was surprising.

Even if he hasn't always appeared only in masterpieces, Gérard Depardieu has delivered unforgettable performances, sometimes even brilliant ones. Even better: almost 40 years after his debut, Depardieu still manages to renew himself, contrary to some other great actors of his generation, who have been on autopilot for the last while.

Few actors have a career they could look back on as proudly as that of Gérard Depardieu, and still be so modest about it.
