Cannes: honours list

After two week's worth of provocative, controversial, disappointing and surprising screenings, the Jury of the Cannes festival crowns their winners.

The Golden Palm to Michael Haneke for «Das Weisse Band» and the Jury Prize to «Un Prophète» by Jacques Audiard. The Jury, presided by French actress Isabelle Huppert, has mostly abided by the press consensus: these two films received most positive reviews.

As far as actors are concerned, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Christoph Walz were awarded best acting for two films that got tongues loose, sometimes vehemently so: horror-shock Lars von Trier's «Antichrist» and Quentin Tarantino's «Inglourious Basterds».

The doubt however does remain whether these films will fare well at the box-office.
