Hindu fundamentalists oppose the erection of a statue of Charlie Chaplin.

Protest against Chaplin

The sculpture is part of the set of a Bollywood movie currently filming inBangalore. The Hindu fundamentalists vehemently protested against theproject, arguing it represented an affront against the values of theirreligion.

Instead, they demand a monument to their guru Swami Vivekananda be erectedin its place, especially because there is a sacred site nearby.

The protest seems surprising, even more because throughout his career,Charlie Chaplin always supported a message of tolerance and peace amongall people, without ever pushing pro-Christian views.
