In the former flourishing highlands of Jalisco, 50-year-old María runs the last independent tequila factory. The tenacious businesswoman is held in high esteem by her employees, but her company has suffered bitter setbacks, and not only because of serious fungal infestations. In order to save the factory from the threat of takeover by foreign corporations, she hires the young accountant Rafaela as her last hope.
