Extraterrestrial beings mistakenly leave behind one of their kind after a visit to earth. Little Elliot finds the creature and the two becomes friends. The alien friend demonstrates to be unbelievably intelligent and even learns how to adapt to life on earth. Deprived of his fellow extraterrestrials, however, it gradually gets home sick which prompts the children to try to establish contact with the outside world.
