Although somewhat superficial in its portrayal of the seventies, this first film by Sofia Coppola distinguishes itself by its meticulous photography and impeccable direction. James Woods and Kathleen Turner (whom Sofia Coppola had already met on the set of the delightful "Peggy Sue gets married" where she played her younger sister, directed by her illustrious father) interpret the parents with the talent which we have long since recognised.
