"Think about a solution that could change the world and try to apply it". This is what Trevor (*Haley Joel Osment*) and his class mates hear from their shy social studies teacher, Eugene Simonet (*Kevin Spacey*). Trevor is more sensitive than one expect from the average kid of 11 but understandable in view of the various difficulties he has encountered in his young life : a largely absent and violent father (*Jon Bon Jovi*), and an alcoholic mother who kills herself whilst at work (*Helen Hunt*), Trevor shows up at class with a solution he believes could improve our lowly world : "Pay It Forward". His idea is simply to render service to three strangers in need, the only condition that the recipients do the same to three other people.
