The robot boy David - an android who can feel true love - is adopted in the near future by the Swintons. No sooner is David programmed for the love of his new mother, than he comes into conflict with his human brother Martin. Suddenly David is one child too many in the family. With David's banishment, an excursion begins through the wickedly decadent "Rouge City", where the boy encounters the gigolo-android Joe. Together they search for the possibility of correcting David's handicap of artificiality and of turning him into a real boy.
