Mulholland Drive, the famous Los Angeles road, close to Hollywood. Just as she is about to be shot point blank by a killer, a woman miraculously escapes death: another vehicle slams into the front of the limo she's sitting in and kills her would-be assassin. Dragging herself from the twisted metal, she soon discovers that she has amnesia to the extent that she can't remember her own name. Still under shock, she finds refuge in the apartment of the young actor Betty, who has arrived fresh from Ontario and hopes to become a movie star. Aided by Betty, the beautiful woman with no memory slowly begins to recover a few pieces of her past.
