Utopia Blues
It's the beginning and the world's the wrong way up. There's someone hanging from a tree and looking at everything upside down. Cue Rafael Hasler, a young man with a big dream. He wants to make his entry into the world as a musician, along with Dani and the Utopia Blues Band. You've got things the wrong way up mate, says the world, you have to do something proper first. But for Rafael there's only one proper thing. Music. To live completely or not at all. And nothing in between. But Rafael needs to live the in between, and we need to see him do it. Before our eyes the young man who wants to be a musician becomes a psychiatric case. Because there's something there in between reality and Rafael's dream. It's too much conventionality, it's too much mother, it's too little father, it's too little love. One beloved grandfather doesn't make happiness. The world for Rafael becomes white coats and psychiatric drugs. But it's not all bad. In the clinic there is a breakthrough. Love makes music. It's the end and Rafael is standing the right way up with his head in the real world, tentative but secure.
