The Republic is in an upheaval. Hundreds of planets are joining the separatist movement of the dubious Count Dooku (Christopher Lee). Not even the Jedi, with their zippy neon sticks, can do anything against it. When an attempt is made on the life of Senator Padmé Amidala (Natalie Portman), young Anakin Skywalker is ordered to guard her. While he is busy falling in love with his charge on the idyllic planet Naboo, Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) sweeps the universe for those behind the attack on Amidala and questions the origin of a secret army supposedly built up for the Jedi cause.
