The date is 14th November, 1965. Barely out of the bosom of their families in the United States, lieutenant colonel Hal Moore and his newly trained recruits are parachuted into the valley of the Drang in Vietnam. Moore's group of 400 soldiers soon finds itself in frontline combat against an enemy of 2000 men. In spite of the imbalance of numbers, Lieutenant Colonel Moore manages to avoid a massacre, albeit incurring heavy losses, in what turns out to be the first significant battle of the Vietnam war.
