The only child of Jewish parents, Rachel suffers from the weight of the unsaid and from the little comments that her mother (*Agnès Jaoui*) seems to think up by the dozen. The girl is dying of boredom and dreams of exchanging her status for that of orphan, which seems preferable. Her trips to a child psychiatrist don't change anything. Luckily she meets Valérie, a mischievous and cheeky girl, affected by a heart defect, which she also has on her hand. When Rachel's father (*Denis Podalydès*), who installs kitchens, offers a new one to Valérie's single mother (*Isabelle Carré*), Rachel's parents, far from quietly growing old, see their world turned upside down...
