But a handful of resistant rebels survive. One of them, Melanie (*Saoirse Ronan*), whose – Ah... no, no wait... Nope, after 2 minutes 20 of film, Melanie is no more; meet “Wanderer”. But Melanie resists! Her spirit battles within her body, thanks to aggressive voice-over. She will fight for her life, her planet and that darkly handsome dude she'd really like to bone one more time, or that blond one, who can tell?! Who will win?! Who will stare at the other more intensely?! Thanks a bunch *Stephenie Meyer*... In this science fiction where nothing happens, the tension is everywhere, mostly repressed and sexual. *Saoirse Ronan*'s ridiculous internal struggle is an appalling waste of her talent. The style and design, as in every Meyer production (*Twilight*) is kitsch and out of place, underlining the shallowness of the emotional shenanigans of her insufferable characters, even in the wake of total annihilation. The film is an insult to the noble genre that is sci-fi but not quite as lame as was *Twilight* and sometimes even almost fun. What a shame then that, the rest of the time, it's so awfully dumb.
