Summer 1967. The United States is experiencing an unprecedented wave of riots. The war in Vietnam, seen as a neo-colonial intervention, and racial segregation nurture the protest. In Detroit, where emotions have been tense for two days, shots are heard in the middle of the night near a National Guard base. The police force surrounds the Algiers Motel, from which a shot was heard. Flouting all regulations, the police subject a handful of hotel guests to a sadistic interrogation to force confessions.
