Jane Eyre (Mia Wasikowska) has had a hard childhood. At ten she's sent to boarding school and after graduation she finds a position as the governess for the Rochester family. Although Edward Rochester (Michael Fassbender), the head of the household, confuses Jane with his strange behavior, she falls in love with him. Finally on the brink of happiness, Jane realizes Edward is harboring a dark secret.

Director Cary Fukunaga's (Sin Nombre) interpretation of Charlotte Brontë's literary masterpiece is free of the decorative superficiality of previous adaptations, as the young American has reduced the story to its essence: a love that crosses class borders is threatened by the principles of the main character. An intimate portrait of Jane Eyre made even more successful thanks to the excellent performance of Mia Wasikowska.
