Turn Me On, Goddammit
In a remote part of Norway, a teen obsessed by sex is rejected by her friends.
In Skoddeheimen, a remote Norwegian town, all you can hope for is learning how use the cash register and end up behind one at the local market. Swilling beer and puffing on smokes, Alma, 15, and her two friends Ingrid and Sara-Lou dream of getting out of town. With a fertile imagination, Alma dreams about getting close to Artur, a boy in her class. In the meantime, she calls sex hotlines and masturbates. During a drunken evening, Artur shows Alma his penis and touches her thigh with it. Beside herself, Alma tells her friends but they don't believe her, and soon the whole town is making fun of her...
To hell with Hollywood's female clichés! In the movies, the subject of sexuality and women (such as in Elles by Malgorzata Szumowska) is riding a trend and thank goodness it is! Adapted from Olaug Nilssen's book, this film by Jannicke Systad Jacobsen shows all the stories the young heroine has in her head using black & white freeze frames. The movie is refreshing, original and funny, even if, in the end, not much happens. The characters surrounding Alma don't have much to them, but for a good reason. The focus is on the exceptional Alma, who accepts being shunned by society because she doesn't want to betray who she is.
