Un été brûlant
A bit player and his new girlfriend are invited to Rom by another couple. Starring Monica Bellucci.
A bit player in movies, Paul meets Frédéric (Louis Garrel), a young man on the brink of financial troubles who spends some time painting and the rest with his wife Angèle (Monica Bellucci), an Italian actress. The two men become close friends and Paul meets on the set the woman he wants to share the rest of his life with. The two couples decide to spend the summer in the Italian capital at the home of Frédéric and Angèle. There they submit to the vagaries of love, exhausting feelings, disenchantment and misunderstandings. It will be a fateful summer for Frédéric.
Philippe Garrel returns to his favorite issues - from the feelings surrounding love to political ideals - giving his son the starring role in this slice of life set in summer. The slow pace and accumulation of exasperating and banal reflections on relationships and love risk loosing the interest of viewers who are unaccustomed to the French directors style, where very often an hour can pass as slowly as a season.
