Everyday Rebellion
Everyday Rebellion is a documentary analyzing methods of passive resistance around the world: the Arab revolutions in Egypt and Syria, Occupy Wall Street in New York, the 15 de Mayo and Indignados movements in Spain, acts of resistance in Iran, the Yes Man and Femen activists. All these show that passive resistance is more effective than using weapons. This movie looks at the daily lives of a new type of warriors who use innovative methods to change society and put people back in the center of discussion.
The film looks at people deeply in debt who are dependent on banks, who sleep in the street, who think of committing suicide as a solution to their plight, or who simply dream of a better future for generations to come. It reveals a society that places profit ahead of people, the interest of banks before justice, and oppression before equality. Directors Arash and Arman Riahi focus on people who are taking on this undemocratic system, uncovering ties between the world’s pacifist groups that put people – individuals who are both isolated and in solidarity with those around them – in the center of the action, with the aim of a better world. “Everyday Rebellion” is a project aimed at using creative, no-violent methods against the 1% who make the rules. There is a website to go with the film http://www.everydayrebellion.net/ to continue the discussion.
