Who Killed Johnny
Melanie Winiger and Max Loong as immigrants looking to make it big in Hollywood – who discover a dead body.
Two Swiss citizens, Max (Max Loong) and Melanie (Melanie Winiger), decide to try their luck in Hollywood. Although they have written many screenplays, none of them seem to turn into blockbusters. And they keep getting sidetracked by their German neighbor Jambo (Ernest Hausman), his girlfriend Gudrun (Jordan Carver) and a collection of colorful characters regularly found in the LA landscape. When Johnny Depp, or someone who at least looks like the Hollywood star, is hit by a car in front of Max and Melanie's house, their imaginations catch fire – a new production starring the corpse (Ronnie Rodriguez) and the conceited Carlos (Carlos Léal) is ready to begin.
Who Killed Johnny, the first feature film by Swiss actress/producer/director Yangzom Brauen, is an unexpectedly trippy comedy that offers a look at Swiss expats in Hollywood that is sometimes real and often pimped for filming purposes, but nonetheless believable. A remarkable piece of guerilla filmmaking by a group of established Swiss stars, who worked for free with great enthusiasm, resulting in a comedy that breaks convention.
