Das finstere Tal
In an alpine village, a stranger is confronted with the mistrust of the peasant community. Alpine western.
A faraway peasant village in the Alps at turn of the 20th century: the Brenner family – the patriarch, his sons Hans and Hubert and their four brothers – dominate the community in this high mountain valley where strangers are rarely seen. This changes when a mysterious man named Grieder arrives looking for a place to spend the night. It’s decided he can stay at the house of the widow Gader and her daughter Luzi, whose upcoming wedding seems to unsettle the inhabitants. Nobody in the village knows yet that Greider has unfinished business with the village.
The adaptation of Andreas Prochaskas novel is based on classic patterns of the western genre and takes advantage of the inhospitable mountain scenery and monumental panorama shots of the Alps. Add complex characters and convincing actors and what you get is a brilliant German western.
