Mother and Child

Ensemble feature about 3 women trying to overcome difficulties stemming from motherhood.

Three women who don't know one another each suffer from an emotional void on the subject of motherhood: Lucy, who can't have her own children, hopes she and her husband can adopt the child of a teenager; Elizabeth, a hard-boiled lawyer from Los Angeles with no ties to anyone sleeps with her pregnant neighbor's husband and her own boss; Karen, bitter and frustrated, takes care of her aging mother while still regretting having given up a baby for adoption 35 years ago at age 14 and never hearing from her child since. Elizabeth turns out to be Karen's daughter...

Moving ensemble drama that lets its stars shine in roles rife with human tragedy, which makes it hard for the viewer to remain indifferent: Naomi Watts is as good as always, Samuel L. Jackson is surprising and Annette Bening amazes.
