A writer on a book tour and a gallery owner fall for each other in Tuscany.
A French gallery owner living in Tuscany with her son goes to a conference to hear an English writer lecture on originals and copies in art. The two adults fall for one another and travel around the countryside, putting some of the writer's theories to the test by taking on the roles of a coupled married for 15 years who is going through a bad patch.
Abbas Kiarostami's first film shot outside Iran is set in the Tuscan hills under a rich sun that gives the movie a golden glow, as he looks at imitation and pretence in relationships. A monotone work starring Juliette Binoche (who won the Best Actress prize for the film at Cannes) with a debut by the baritone William Shimell.
