Love and Other Drugs
The sales rep of a powerful pharmaceutical company falls for a young woman with Parkinson's.
Jamie, a charming young man with no real career, gets a job as a sales rep for a powerful pharmaceutical company. While on the job at a hospital, he meets Maggie, a beautiful and lively young woman with Parkinson's. Immediately drawn towards each other, the two decide on a purely sexual relationship. Until they develop deeper feelings for one another. Will love be stronger than her illness?
Edward Zwick rarely relies on subtlety: see Legends of the Fall and Blood Diamond. This time around, Zwick goes even farther: love-over-illness spread on thickly with a moralization chaser. Even worse, his movie seems to have been sponsored by Pfizer, as their house antidepressant (mentioned several times) is obviously preferred over that of a competitor, and the early days of Viagra are recounted with glee.
