Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
To win her heart, a young man takes on the 7 exes of the girl he loves.
The bass player in a band, Scott Pilgrim is a shy young man of 22 going out with a 17-year-old to try to forget his last girlfriend, which gets him a lot of grief from his sister and his gay roommate. But soon he falls for Ramona, a gorgeous fuchsia-haired New Yorker newly arrived in Toronto. She tells him that if he wants to win her heart, he has to take on the League of 7 Evil Exes – her former boyfriends. And so Scott finds himself in a series of combats, which are reminiscent of the video games he plays regularly...
Skateboards, young love, a comic book style, an indie band and weightless combat with the players' scores superimposed on screen – similar to video games like Dragon Ball and Street Fighter – this movie has all the ingredients for an audience that is geeky at heart. A bit over the top, the result is a hybrid comedy that is exhausting to follow, despite being adapted from the successful graphic novel by Bryan Lee O'Malley.
