A former Mossad member goes to the Ukraine to complete a mission launched 10 years before.

In 1965, three members of the Israeli secret service capture and kill one of the worst torturers of the Third Reich. Returning as heroes to Israel, the past catches up with them when an old man in a Ukrainian retirement home claims to be exactly that "Butcher of Birkenau". One of the three agents, Rachel Singer, goes in search of what really happened. It's never too late to find out the truth...

The classically structured The Debt, a US remake of the Israeli film Ha-Hov, is a suspenseful thriller and well constructed, with performances that captive the audience through to the end. Which may be surprising, given that the director is John Madden, who made the very rom-com Shakespeare in Love and the horrifically sappy Captain Corelli's Mandolin. Starring the always excellent Helen Mirren and Tom Wilkinson, as well as Sam Avatar Worthington.

Drawn out with the distraction of poorly matched older and younger versions of the agents...
