Love in the time of globalization. Star-studded episodic film by Brazilian director Fernando Mereilles (City of God).

In brief episodes, the new film by Fernando Mereilles visits the lives of modern people who meet one another by chance: two very different sisters from Bratislava hoping to make it in Vienna; a London businessman who rediscovers his love for his wife; a broken man (Anthony Hopkins) in search of his lost daughter. The title of the movie reveals its structure: the first scene will also be the last. The die is cast and a new turn can begin on this carousel of stories about love and happenstance in the time of globalization.

A plethora of split screens and cross-fades visually underline the ties between the stories. Unfortunately, neither these technical tricks nor a stellar cast (Rachel Weisz, Anthony Hopkins, Moritz Bleibtreu, Ben Foster, Jamel Debbouze) can save this movie from lukewarm boredom. The character's stories are seldom moving, and the motif of abandonment is too often repeated.
