Pixar sends the likeable racecar Lightning McQueen and his friend Mater on a new adventure.

Lightning McQueen and Mater leave Radiator Springs and travel around the globe to take part in three car races, to determine which car is the fastest in the world. During their travels, Mater gets involved in an international spy ring, joining up with the British sports car Finn McMissile and his colleague Holly Shiftwell to save the world from junk cars like the AMC Pacer, the Yugo and the Gremlin.

The sequel races along like a Formula 1 car. The latest 3D computer graphics make the races so real that audiences can feel every curve in their stomach. But the content of Cars 2 is as rusty as a jalopy. The many stories – from the spy plotline, the doings of the oil industry to the difficulties between Lightning McQueen and Mater – make this a non-starter that is hard to understand for young audiences. Cars 2 is not a bad movie, but it's unfortunate it doesn't meet up to the usual Pixar standard.
