The icon of European cinema talks to various artists about existential subjects

This documentary, in which every word is weighed, is not about Charlotte Rampling. It is about Charlotte Rampling talking to others. The 65-year-old actress reveals her numerous facets in a natural way in conversations about nude scenes, age, beauty, resonance, taboos, demons, desire, death and love – with people like Peter Lindbergh, Paul Auster, Barnaby Southcombe (her oldest son), Juergen Teller and Frederik Seidel.

Not becoming what others want one to be, but instead keeping one’s own personality is a difficult thing, when one is constantly in the public eye or on camera. But this is what Rampling has managed to do, so as not to become devoured by show businesses. From this singular portrait emerges an intelligent woman who takes on every challenge (“Danger and fear are what drive the best experiences.”) but can’t do without emotional security. What if one couldn’t be had without the other?
