In 2016, life on earth is transformed into an inferno caused by global warming.

Taking along food and their last liters of gas, Philip, Marie and his sister Léonie take one last trip to the mountains, where they hope to find the water necessary for their survival. They bring along Tom, the gas station attendant, who at first tried to steal their car. Then Léonie is kidnapped when a gang steals it instead. In trying to save her, Philip is also taken and Marie sets off to find them. When she is on the verge of dying of thirst, a nearby country woman offers her something to drink and takes her to her farm - where she learns that the woman's family has turned into cannibals to survive...

This post-apocalyptic film by young Swiss-German director Tim Fehlbaum isn't very original - the story is clearly borrowed from John Hillcoat's The Road, which was itself adapted from the excellent novel by Cormac McCarthy – but it nonetheless is spell-binding. The suspense is exceptionally orchestrated by a camera that seems to be spying on the characters and by the intensity of the sun ("hell" also means "bright" in German), whose power reduces all living things to nothingness.
