Two brothers try to change their destinies by going to a place where miracles happen.

Two brothers each live with a separated parent: Koichi with their mother, at the foot of a volcano that belches smoke, covering the town with a fine dust. When a new bullet train line is announced that crosses the region of Japan that separates him from his brother, Koichi hears that if you go to the exact place where two trains coming from opposite directions meet, miracles will happen. He decides to go there and see his wish fulfilled: if the volcano erupts and ruins the town, he and his mother will have to go live with his father and brother, and the family will be reunited. Nothing can stop the courageous heart: he and his friends pack up a few things and set off for an adventure...

As in his two previous movies, Nobody knows and Still walking, Kore-Eda Hirokazu delicately and tenderly deals with childhood and family. In the company of the audience, he takes the boys by the hand on their journey, where growing up is part of the game. A voyage between instructive fable and kids' road-movie, with special attention paid to details reminiscent of the poetic images of Japanese photographer Rinko Kawauchi.
