Killer Joe
In debt, a petty dealer hires a hit man to kill his mother for the insurance. Directed by William Friedkin.
In debt up to his neck, Chris, a petty drug dealer working the skids of Dallas, finds no better way to get out of trouble than by having his unworthy mother killed for the $50,000 insurance. Convincing his no-good, alcoholic father (Thomas Haden Church) and his father's second wife (Gina Gershon) – with whom he's never gotten along – that the deed must be done, Chris contracts angel of death and part-time cop Joe Cooper (Matthew McConaughey) for the actual job. With Chris unable to pony up an advance, Joe offers an alternative: until he receives his money, he has free reign to go after Chris' teenage sister...
Sensitive souls beware: for more than 40 years, William Friedkin has been exploring the dark side of humanity. After disturbing millions of viewers with movies like The Exorcist and Cruising, Friedkin pushes the envelope even farther with this unsavory, noxious but extremely exuberant flick in which Gina Gershon, Thomas Haden Church and especially Matthew McConaughey as the perverse killer are breathtaking.
