La maison corse
After inheriting a broken-down house, a young woman finds meaning in her life.
30-year-old Christine (Christelle Cornil) works in boyfriend's father's pizzeria in Charleroi. When her grandmother dies, she inherits a house in Corsica that no one knew existed. Not listening to those who think she should sell, Christine impulsively decides to visit her new property. Nestled at an altitude of 1100 meters in an isolated spot and completely broken down, the house is not really a blessing. But Christine gets to know the locals, including a charming shepherd (François Vincentelli) and discovers her grandmother's past. This inspires her to stay, even though she has no money to refurbish the house...
Not much happens in Pierre Duculot's debut film, which is surely on purpose. In an era of action movies designed to dazzle audiences, it takes a certain amount of courage to make a film about the glory of nature and living in the present tense, far from the fever of consumerism and the desire to always have more. The idealistic director's message seems to be that it's not enough to dream of another life, you have to have the courage to change.
