A plastic surgeon holds a woman captive to experiment on. From Pedro Almodovar.

Since the death of his wife, who was burned alive in a car accident, and that of his daughter, traumatized after being raped, a plastic surgeon named Robert Ledgard buries himself in research. In his aim to create a type of resistant synthetic skin that would have saved his wife, he becomes increasingly unethical. Living at home with his mother in an isolated house, he holds a woman captive to use as a guinea pig. But when his crook of a brother arrives unexpectedly and throws himself on the mysterious prisoner, Dr. Ledgard's life once again turns tragic...

Pedro Almodovar came home empty-handed after screening La piel que habito in Cannes. Proof that the festival and its jury does - even if rarely - get it right. A thriller without suspense, a drama that's involuntarily funny, with a fragmented story in which Almodovar once again works out his obsessions – which are not to everyone's taste – La piel que habito isn't even shocking, despite some very gritty scenes. And his elitist references to the myth of Frankenstein and Les yeux sans visage by Georges Franju in no way save this ridiculous film.

Another great Almodovar movie. This time in a scary cult version.
