An American with a violent past goes to Uganda to save hundreds of children from rebel groups.

Just out of prison in the boonies of his home state, Pennsylvania, Sam Childers goes right back to his violent life as a heroin-dealing biker. His wife, who found God while he was in prison, manages to convert him as well and turn him into an honest man. Sam not only builds his own church and preaches the Good Word, he soon leaves for Uganda to help those less fortunate. Once there, he discovers what horrors the Lord's Resistance Army of Joseph Kony perpetuates on its countrymen - from rape and massacres to kidnapped children who are forced to become soldiers. Sam decides to organize raids on these terrorists instead of building an orphanage...

Based on the incredible life of Sam Childers, The Machine Gun Preacher is filmed in the same straight style as the moving Whistleblower: without being masterpieces, these admirable films serve mainly to focus Western attention on horrors committed in regions of the world the press seems deliberately to be ignoring. Simultaneously revolting and deeply moving.
