Movie Rating: Agathe Tissier

An uptight bourgeoise meets a coarse factory worker. Comedy starring Benoît Poelvoorde and Isabelle Huppert.

Agathe (Isabelle Huppert), director of the Fondation d'Art Contemporain Cartier in Paris, and Patrick (Benoît Poelvoorde), an impecunious Walloon factory worker, have only one thing in common: their sons go to the same school and are good friends. She is just as cold and uptight as he is coarse and clumsy. When Agathe's boyfriend (André Dussolier) hires Patrick to finish some construction work on their sumptuous apartment, his boorish presence gets on her sniffy nerves. But one separation and a few glasses too many soon put things in a different light...

Once the first few good quips between these two completely opposite characters have come and gone, Mon pire cauchemar (My Worst Nightmare) might well become yours. Anne Fontaine delivers a situation that can't stand up to a full-length feature. She focuses on the differences that separate the two protagonists, a tactic that loses all credibility once they come closer to one another. Their character traits are so accentuated that it's hard to believe these people would ever change their minds about one another.
