Following an outbreak that turns most of the population into zombies, 19th C England cuts itself off from the rest of the world for protection. Trained in martial arts according to tradition, the Bennet sisters reach the age where they should find a husband. But Elizabeth refuses, determined not to comply with any man’s requirements. Until she meets Darcy, the merciless colonel who specializes in hunting down the living dead...

The idea, adapted from the novel by Seth Grahame-Smith, is as unusual as it is intriguing: setting the romantic classic by Jane Austen within a post-apocalyptic world where a girl of good standing battles zombies. In development since 2009, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies passed through the hands of stars like Natalie Portman, David O. Russell (American Hustle) and Scarlett Johansson before finally coming to a halt on the desk of Burr Steers (The Perks of Being a Wallflower), who settled for a less prestigious cast. The result is mixed: at first funny, cheeky and forceful, it quickly dwindles into same-old, same-old, to the point where even the total silliness of the premise seems bland and unimaginative, and the movie itself turns boring. Bizarre, given the promise of the title.
