Rise of the Planet of the Apes
Scientific experiments gone wrong result in apes taking over our planet.
A scientist takes home a baby chimp named Caesar from his lab as part of a research project designed to cure mankind of all degenerative diseases. When the primate, who has received a dose of this cure, begins to display superhuman intelligence, the authorities have him locked up in a cage with other apes. But once within this oppressive environment, Caesar becomes determined to free himself – he escapes, steals the cure and gives it to all the apes in confinement. And so begins a rebellion that soon leads to the invasion of San Francisco...
Rarely has a movie so brilliantly shown how the viral exponential phenomena works, or how one remote incident can cause global catastrophe. Much better than Tim Burton's 2010 reboot (not to mention the cheesy original starring Charlton Heston), this new Planet of the Apes proves with any given 5-minute scene that the self-proclaimed European auteur cinema (Von Trier, Haneke, Almodovar and consorts...) have produced more rubbish than good movies in the past few years. This is high-quality American entertainment.
