An astonishingly classic and humorless Western, in comparison with the rest of the Coen Brothers' catalog, True Grit is their second remake (based on the movie of the same name that got John Wayne an Oscar in 1969) after 2004's awful The Ladykillers. Although True Grit is a good film in the end effect, it would still be nice if in future the Coens could avoid remakes in favor of their usual tragic-grotesque specialties.
