A man who's lost his brother is caught in an emotional conflict between two sisters.

Jack (the excellent Mark Duplass) does not like overblown praise, if even it's for his dead brother. Seeing that he's not doing well, his best friend Iris (Emily Blunt) sends him to “air out his spirit” on an island in Washington State in her family's vacation home. Once there, he meets Hannah (Rosemarie DeWitt), Iris's sister, who has just broken up with her girlfriend and is looking for a bit of quiet. The two get drunk, tell each other their secrets and end up in bed. The next day, Iris arrives and confides in Hannah that she's attracted to Jack...

The tone is given in the first scene, where the deceased is celebrated by his friends one year after his death: the characters get straight to the point without wasting words, and what follows is in keeping with that scene. Jack's direct way of speaking is funny because he calls people on hypocritical situations that should be familiar to everyone. Director Lynn Shelton offers many delightfully dark observations, such as the exaggerated Hannah, a fanatical vegetarian. The end is a bit predictable but freshness and spontaneity are maintained until the end.
