Anleitung zum Unglücklichsein
Nothing goes right for Tiffany, and her dead mother is no help. A recipe for delusion and confusion. German comedy with serious undertones.
Tiffany (Johanna Wokalek) runs a delicatessen in Berlin, still waiting for happiness and Mr. Right. But would she recognize him if he appeared in her life? This is what she asks when she meets three candidates: a piano teacher, a policeman and a photographer. As if she weren't confused enough already, her dead mother keeps appearing with advice, even though all Tiffany wants is to finally be happy.
Sherry Hormann's new movie is a comedy – but not only. Anleitung zum Unglücklichsein is at turns funny, moving and tragic. Which doesn't make for an even film and often comes across as odd – especially Tiffany's pretentious discussions with her dead mother, when Johanna Wokalek seems completely lost when she should be serious.
