Escape from Tibet
A medical student helps Tibetan refugees escape over 6000-meter passes to India. Drama starring Hannah Herzsprung.
A majestic high-altitude landscape, a Tibetan monastery and a story with a political background. A naïve German tourist and mountain climber meets a half-orphan who is a friend of the "Golden Boy", the supposed successor of the Dalai Lama. Two groups of escapees are formed, each chased by Chinese occupiers. Along for the ride is Swiss actress Yangzom Brauen as a local woman who helps the parties flee.
Maria Blumencron's movie is a good adventure and a plea for the culture of Tibet: clear, committed and moving. If it is not to the taste of the Chinese oppressors, even better! Escape from Tibet awakens emotions, understanding and resistance – also against movies that offer trivial esthetics and esoteric mental culture.
