Le guetteur
A police inspector suspects a gunman, a friend of his dead son, of killing several of his officers.
Inspector Mattei (Daniel Auteuil) is about to arrest bank robbers who have eluded him for two years. But the arrest turns into carnage due to a sniper hidden on the roof who takes out the cops like fish in a barrel. A suspect (Mathieu Kassovitz) is found, who turns out to have known the inspector's son, who was also a gunman and who died in combat in Afghanistan. Does the man have more information about his son's disappearance, which was classified top secret? At the same time, a doctor in cahoots with one of the injured robbers becomes a key element in the investigation...
The hunt is on and Michele Placido runs after several targets, losing sight of all of them in the end. The most confusion is offered by a link between an earlier bank job and the cop's dead son, and adding an unnecessary serial killer doesn't help matters either. Despite the director's Italian origin, what's left is a low-level, heavy-handed french thriller.
