Of broken dreams and unrequited love: Tom Hooper's adaptation of the classic musical, starring Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway.

Paris, 1832: former convict Jean Valjean (Hugh Jackman) has become a success after many years in prison. But Inspector Javert (Russell Crowe) obsessively chases down the former thief. Valjean takes care of the daughter of factory worker Fantine (Anne Hathaway) and raises her. The past catches up with him many years later when Javert finally has the chance of arresting his man.

Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway are excellent for both their acting and singing – with Hathaway taking home an Oscar at the 2013 ceremony. In their ragged costumes, the two are the highlights of a 1830's setting that is brown with a crusty patina. A real treat for all musical fans and those who may become so after this movie. After the musical adaptations of the past few years (Sweeney Todd, Nine), Les Misérables catapults the genre into a new sphere.

Very good film, unfortunately Hugh J wasn't always in tune, but otherwise very enjoyable watch. All the actors were increadible, and the cinematography too.
