Like Someone in Love
Abbas Kiarostami's poetic love story about a Japanese student who supports herself as a call girl.
Akiko, a young student from Tokyo, supports herself as a call girl. After a night spent together, an older sociology professor drives her to the university, where her aggressively jealous fiancé is waiting. What follows is a discussion about love and trust, with unexpected results.
Like Someone in Love is full of allusions that remain open until the abrupt ending. What can be frustrating lends the characters realism, which is helpful because it's up to the audience to fill in the blanks of their stories. Despite this, the movie doesn't have the same spontaneity or intensity of the earlier, award-winning works of the Iranian director.
