A commonsensical psychologist and her assistant unmask mediums who claim to have paranormal powers.

Margaret, a psychologist at an American university, and her assistant Tom are extremely suspicious of a group of mediums who claim to have paranormal powers. Hired from around the country, these two commonsensical scientists regularly unmask all kinds of charlatans who are overpaid to appear at sold-out shows – letting millions of people in pain believe they can manage their troubles. Until Simon, a charismatic medium who seems to actually have parapsychological powers, comes out of retirement. Have dealt closely with him 30 years before, Margaret strongly advises Tom not to go after Silver, who according to her is evil incarnate...

Horror thriller about faith, the occult, religion and science, in which the young Spanish director Rodrigo Cortes confirms his talents (first seen in the impressive Buried) for keeping the public in complete suspense. Costarring with Cillian Murphy and Sigourney Weaver is Robert De Niro, who plays the medium as a man one loves to hate – similar to the roles (Angel Heart, Cape Fear, Taxi Driver, The Fan, etc.) that made him a movie legend.
