The Big Wedding
Robert De Niro and Diane Keaton pretend to be a happy couple on the occasion of their son's wedding. Comedy by Justin Zackham.
Alejandro and Missy are about to get married. A less-than-perfect time for the groom to remember he's never told his biological mother in Columbia that his adoptive parents divorced years ago, and so the strict Catholic believes her son has been brought up "properly". To keep her in the dark, Alejandro convinces his adoptive parents to pretend they are still married during mama's visit. While the deception is constantly on the verge of being revealed, Alejandro's siblings add even more of a threat through their behavior.
Justin Zackham's obvious wedding comedy never really gets off the ground, even though it has a stellar cast in the form of Diane Keaton, Susan Sarandon, Robert De Niro and Robin Williams. But lots of stars still aren't enough for a good movie, a truism proved once again by The Big Wedding: great acting can't make up for a weak screenplay.
